teams must play in a USCF-Rated Section
Format:
For all Sections up to 8th Grade: 5SS, G/30 (5 games will be played & each opponent has 30 minutes to complete his game.) No elimination -- everyone will play all 5 rounds.
For K-12 Sections: 6SS, G/30/45 (6 games will be played but the first 3 rounds will be G/30 and the last 3 rounds will be G/45). No elimination -- everyone will play all 6 rounds.
Byes: (1/2-pt.) available for any round (one round only).

Info for USCF-Rated Sections:
The top 4 scores from each school will count as the final team score.
No limit on entries or teams from any school or home-school
district but team members must all register in the same section.

Info:
All sections are USCF rated and require USCF membership, which may be
purchased on site. For a one-year
USCF membership the cost is:
$17 for ages 12 yrs. & under which includes 6 issues of Chess Life
for Kids magazine;
$19 for ages 15 & under which includes 6 issues of Chess Life magazine;
$25 for ages 24 & under which includes 12 issues of Chess Life magazine.
Reserve (non-USCF rated) Sections are not rated and do not require USCF membership.
Prizes:
Trophies awarded to top 10 individuals and top 3 teams in each Rated
Section; Trophies to top 5 individuals in each Reserve Section; Medals to all
non-trophy winners.
NOTE: USCF-recommended
computer tiebreaks will decide trophy and medal placements except for the K-12
Open Section where there will be head-to-head playoffs in the event of a tie
to determine the Denker representative. The
winner of the K-12 Open Section will be the official 2008 Louisiana
representative to the national Arnold Denker Tournament of High School Champions
in August in Dallas, Texas.

On-Site
Registration:
On-site registration will be held from 7:30-8:30 a.m. the day of the tournament.
First round for the K-12 High School Sections will be at 9 a.m. First
round for all other sections will begin at 10 a.m.
Entry
Fee:
$20 if received by Friday, March 21;
$30 thereafter and on site (includes required $5 LA Chess Association dues for
all K-12 entries).
Hotels: Comfort Inn & Suites, 1819 Main St., Franklin, LA 337-809-6040 ($68.99 + tax, 5 miles from tournament site); or Days Inn & Suites, 611 Queen City Dr., New Iberia, LA 337-560-9500 ($68 + tax; 20 miles from tournament site); or Holiday Inn, 2915 Hwy 14, New Iberia, LA 337-367-1201 ($78 + tax; 20 miles from tournament site). Request "Chess Rate" -- Reservations must be made by March 14 to assure group rate.
Misc’l: Players should bring their own chess boards, sets, and clocks, if available; none will be provided. Chess vendor will be on site. Lunch break will be announced -- hot lunch will be available for purchase on site and other rounds will immediately follow.
Parents/Coaches Tournament: While your children or students are playing chess, we will have a JUST-FOR-FUN Parents/Coaches Chess Tournament (Non-Rated). There will be 4 rounds, Game in 25 minutes, and it will start when your kids begin their second round and the last game will be played during their fifth round. However, HERE'S THE TWIST !!! . . . you can choose any one scholastic player (you must let us know at the beginning of the tournament who it is -- i.e., a parent may choose his own child, a coach may choose any player on his team) -- and your final tournament score will be combined with that student's final tournament score. A trophy will be given to the parent or coach who has the most points from his own individual score, and a trophy will be given to the parent or coach who has the most points when combined with the scholastic player's score once the scholastic tournament is finished. $2 entry fee to play . . . register on site as soon as the first round starts for the kids!
Directions to West St. Mary High School:
From New Orleans (heading west on I-10):
Traveling on I-10 west from New Orleans/Metairie/Kenner
take Exit #220/Boutte/Houma onto I-310 South. Go 12 miles until
you reach the end of I-310 and then take the Houma exit onto Hwy
90 (US-90 West). Continue on US-90 West for about 84 miles
until you reach the Baldwin/Louisa exit (it does not have an Exit
number). (NOTE: 5 miles before the Baldwin exit you will see the
Franklin exit which is where one of the recommended hotels is
located). At the end of the Baldwin exit you will be facing LA-83
East. Take LA-83 East for 1.1 miles, then turn left on Main St.
(LA-182). Continue on LA-182 for 1.4 miles and West St. Mary
High School will be on your left.
From Lake Charles (heading east on I-10):
Traveling on I-10 east from the Lake Charles area take Exit
103A/Lafayette onto US-167 South for about 2.6 miles then onto
US-90 East for about 40 miles. (NOTE: You will pass through
New Iberia which is where a couple of the recommended hotels are
located.) Continue on US-90 East to the Baldwin/Louisa Exit (it
does not have an exit number). At the end of the exit you will be
facing LA-83 East. Take LA-83 East for 1.1 miles, then turn left
on Main St. (LA-182). Continue on LA-182 for 1.4 miles and West
St. Mary High School will be on your left.
